Color Wheel Motif
Preparation
Materials:
Materials:
- 8-1/2" x 11" sheet of print paper
- pencil and ruler (Do you know what a half-inch looks like on a ruler?)
- tracing paper (half sheet)
- 10" x 10" painting railroad board
- Draw a 5-inch square.
- Make a 2-inch mark on two sides (as seen in the diagram).
- Draw two diagonal lines from opposite upper-left corner of the square to the 2 marks you just made (as shown in the diagram).
- Make a mark along the 2 lines you just drew. The marks are 5 inches down from that upper-left corner. (See photo!)
- Connect the two lines -- you have now constructed a triangle (See the orange triangle in the photo below.).
Design a Motif
Inside the Triangle:
Inside the Triangle:
- Draw an icon, an image, or a flat shape of something recognizable ... HOW WELL CAN YOU DRAW? Take the time to do this right. Find something online to get inspired, but don't copy it. So, spend some time sketching something out. This might take some time.
- Once you have a good sketch, refine your image and draw it inside the triangle. (See my "evil bunny" below.)
3. Trace your image using the tracing paper.
Trace and Transfer to Board
1. On your 10"x 10" white railroad board, subdivide into four equal squares of 5-inches. Use a ruler for this. (See image below.)
1. On your 10"x 10" white railroad board, subdivide into four equal squares of 5-inches. Use a ruler for this. (See image below.)
2. Trace and Transfer: Don't forget to flip your image or it won't transfer. Also, see the image and instructions in the photo below.
3. Slide your triangle to the other side of the square and retrace and transfer.
4. Then flip and center your image. I draw the 3rd image in the center so that I can make sure it fits between the other two.
5. Finish the tracing the same way for the next 9 images -- Don't forget that each image alternates its orientation, flipping each time. (See the finished result below.)
